GIL, which stands for the Gothenburg Cooperative for Independent Living, is an organization working towards ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive assistance to lead independent lives and make their own decisions.
Anders Westgerd, CEO of GIL, says, 'The statement that it is better to die than to sit in a wheelchair is one of those phrases we've heard since our school days. It implies that a life with a disability is not worth anything. We are tired of people assuming things about a life they know nothing about. We hope that DOMSTOLEN feels in their gut the same way we feel in our gut when people think we should rather refrain from living.
